FIRST EDITION. Folio (400 x 270 mm). xl, 344, [16] pp. Quarter ivory cloth gilt over boards. Label stamped on front bearing title, author’s name and year of publication. Spine divided in six compartments by double-fillets. Tail and head of spine slightly worn, bumped corners. A luxury copy on coated paper once belonged to Hjamar Hartmann (1870 – 1945), a Norwegian garden designer and entrepreneur who played an important part in the seed trade in Northern Europe and the U.S. This book contains a celebration to date of the work of Edwin Lutyens (1869 – 1944), one of the most important country house architects and garden designers of his age. Besides his private commissions, Lutyens was also responsible for a large number of important public projects including the planning of New Delhi’s urban development. Lutyens’ work was regarded by his contemporaries as deeply innovative and ground-breaking. A vast publisher’s catalogue is added at the end. An excellent clean copy.
