Blue wood frames. 27×17.5cm (10.6×6.9in) each. Including original description of species on the back. Published by Samuel Curtis Walworth (1779-1860) in Curtis’s Botanical Magazine, between 1825 and 1826.

 

Illustrations of Wachendorfia paniculata, Crotalaria retusa, Ipomoea splendens and Virgilia intrusa, all species native to Southern Africa.

 

Curtis’s Botanical Magazine is the longest running horticulturist periodical, founded 1787 by William Curtis (1746-1799). Since its inception, it published detailed botanical illustrations created by leading natural history illustrators along with a description of the plant and its original habitat.
