4to., pp. (6), 21. Roman letters with some Italics. Marbled pastedowns with the bookplate of Prince Ferdinand of Savoy (1822 – 1855). Large paper copy; contemporary straight-grained green morocco tooled in gilt and blind with crowned monogram CM and arms of Carlo Alberto (1798-1849), King of Sardinia, on lower cover, gilt edges. Savoy blue silk bookmark included. Water stain on lower gutter, not affecting the text; mild foxing evenly scattered; central pages sprung from the centre, revealing stitching.

 

This oration was written by the theologian Vincenzo Bignotti in memory of the restoration of the shrine of the blessed Amedeo IX, which had been previously plundered by the Napoleonic armies. The magnificent French-style binding in straight-grained green morocco comes from the Royal Archives of Turin. Only two copies of this book have been recorded, both in Turin.
