FIRST EDITION. 8vo, title page laid down (some letters faded), pp. xxxviii (missing initial blank?), 618. Bound in contemporary half green vellum and marbled paper over boards, title on orange label to gilt spine. Edges sprinkled in green. Very good internal condition, except for some occasional light brownings. Left joint a little loose. A good copy.

Temminck (1778-1858) was the first director of the national museum of natural history in Leyden. His handbook of ornithology became the main reference book of the time on European books. He also wrote natural histories of pigeons and gallinaceous birds.
